He used its own constitution to take over the MDC from Chamisa, albeit wrongly so. Using the courts he ordered the reinstatement of Khupe as the President of MDC and Mwonzora as the Secretary General despite Khupe having formed her own party and Mwonzora having lost dismally to Hwende at the MDCA inaugural congress. Effectively ED took over the MDC using its own constitution. That was in 2020.
He won against the MDC but he lost to Chamisa and the poor masses who dumped the MDC and formed a completely new outfit, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC). If MDC was a thorn in ED’s flesh, then the CCC is blades and needles. It costed ED the two thirds majority in parliament that he enjoyed in the previous tenure and for this he will never forgive his nemesis, the young and charismatic Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the CCC.
ED has now directed all the state resources and apparatus on the destruction of Chamisa and CCC. He has all he needs but one. He has the Speaker of Parliament, he has Chigumba and ZEC, he has Malaba and the judiciary, he has the CIO and abductors, he has the money and resources and he has bitter and willing enablers within the CCC, Tshabangu and his handlers, but there is still one that is missing in the puzzle – the CCC constitution.
Without the CCC constitution, ED does not know how to take over the party from Chamisa. It was easy to draft a recall letter, sign it as Tshabangu the interim SG and hand it over to Mudenda who was waiting for it. It was easy for Mudenda to write to ZEC declaring vacant posts. It was very easy for ZEC to inform the Head of State who was also waiting in the relay to declare the by-elections in the government gazette. It was easy because there was always a section to read and support every stage of the scheme, but then it ends there.
Taking some seats from the CCC is not the goal. ED wants the ultimate prize, the complete takeover of the CCC but there is one stumbling block. The CCC does not have a constitution, or so they think.
Mudenda quoted sections to accept Tshabangu’s recall letter. ZEC and the man himself quoted sections to declare by-elections. The judiciary quoted sections to dismiss the CCC recalled MPs’ court challenge but as long as he still can’t quote a piece of paper to install one puppet from the CCC as the leader of the CCC, ED knows he is fighting a losing battle. No wonder why in every section of the media he is trying to attribute the dismissal of the court challenge to CCC’s lack of constitution.
He can recall all the CCC elected MPs but as long as he does not have control over the party all will be futile. He can’t install Tshabangu as the leader because he does not have that crucial document to legitimize the move. He also knows that creating fake party organs will require support from many CCC members, especially known ones, and that is a mammoth task because the majority will stand with their leader because they are aware that it is ZANU’s project to destroy the opposition. The party organs have to be termed and be constituted but ED doesn’t know how the CCC organs would look like; will it be called the National Council, The National Citizens Assembly, the National Champions Retreat or whatever & who will constitute these? If anything, the lack of a constitution in CCC is giving ED a double effect of a headache and a nightmare.
The man will do whatever it will cost to get that piece of paper that he’ll have to read to take over the CCC party thereby effectively destroying the opposition in Zimbabwe. Fortunately to Zimbabweans, he is dealing with a very crafty opponent who knows his eneor now Chamisa has played his cards well. He’s kept his ace a mystery to his enemy
