The SMART Way to Personal Progress
1. STRATEGY with Hard Work:
There are Two types of people, those who just work hard hoping to be successful, and those who simply sit and strategize, but they don’t do anything about it. Both don’t get anywhere.. But then, there is a third rare type, those who strategize, and work hard. Strategy involves planning how to get there, using unorthodox but legal means.. hard work is doing what is required to get there. Without strategy, hard work will take forever to show signs of progress.
2. MOTIVATION:
The word motivation, comes from the word “Motive” which means, “Drive, Reason” or rather answers the question “why?”.. It’s your why, rather than your how that matters the most. You may know how to do it, but if you don’t have a compelling reason to do it, you will sleep and leave it for later. Even David, from the ancient story of killing Goliath, as much as he had a strategy, to use the slingshot, he asked twice, “What will be done for the man who kills this chap Goliath? And he was told “his family will be exempt from tax and he will marry the kings daughter…” if you know David very well, the idea of a woman as a reward was highly motivating and no Goliath couldn’t stand in his way.. What is your motivation?
3. ATTITUDE:
There is an old adage, “Your attitude, determines your altitude.” You get employed for your qualifications, you get fired for your attitude. You get into a relationship because you look good, or talk good, or you are sharp. You get dumped because of attitude. Every success and failure rises and falls on attitude, more than anything else. Some people may not tell you that you have a bad attitude, they’ll just tell you, you are difficult… No one can teach you how to have a good attitude. You teach yourself.
4. RELATIONSHIPS:
How well do you relate with people? To progress in life, you have to ride on other people’s shoulders. Therefore, learn how to make relationships. Some people know how to leave a trail of enemies everywhere they have been. All your former employers are your enemies, your former pastor and church are your enemies, your ex, the police, the opposition party, are all your enemies. What’s your problem?
5. TECHNICAL Know How:
You must know your stuff. There is no excuse for mediocre and low average work. If your job quality is below par, you won’t go anywhere. You have to be good at what you do. This is where formal education comes in. Get that degree, get experience. The world has no tolerance for people who have no skill and are not competent. Let your work speak for you. People who are experts succeed faster and earlier than unskilled people.
