Farmers enjoyed the fruits of their labor as the payment had some value too and they could shop lots of groceries in return for their trip back home. Ask around any general folk whose earning and honest living will tell you they would love to get back to that era. Its an era of price stability, ere of basic commodities available in shops and strengthened buying power.
