Technology

Technology.
When the fever of technology took the world by storm, Africa was slow to catch on to the new norm.

Years later Africa realised ,that this new kid on the block was the norm and was good for business, African joined the technology bandwagon. Zimbabwe was not to be left behind as well, 2008/2009 saw technology taking to the Zimbabwean skies like a fish eagle soaring in the summer blue sky. Optic fibre was trenched around the country like angry black ants scuttling before the onset of rains Access to affordable sim cards, affordable data was now a common trend Technology had indeed arrived in Zimbabwe with style .Business quickly took advantage of this new kid on the bloc, Mobile phones companies mushrooming everywhere, data service providers, and a vast improvement in basic communication s.
Ten years down the line, Social media frenzy became the buzz word, everything was now digital, even people’s lives and personal developments where now visible on social media, company sells and brand visibility as well as company executives board meetings taking place online , entrepreneurs, hustlers and even black market money changers all turned to social media to know whose selling what, where and how much .
Marriages suffered tremendously with many couples filing for divorce based on evidence seen on social media platforms. Some lives where now being saved easily with people able to utilize social media platforms to raise awareness, and fundraise on behalf of friends, family and colleagues .A case in point is of a man named Kholwani (name changed) who was diagnosed with prostate cancer stage 3 and his colleagues set up a GoFundMe page for him and in 18 days time enough money had been raised for him to go to South Africa for treatment. So not only did technology wreck marriages but it also did save lives and build up businesses. Now with the easy and convenient way of doing business and transacting and making timely payments life will never be the same again with the new kid on the block.
Slowly but gradually the country is digitizing, with now reports of cases and incidents being reported in real time. The Zimbabwean government has embarked on a massive overhaul scale with parliament of Zimbabwe now being technologically modified in reports, debates, and conducting their business , this is a good move as it opens up the environment for the acceptance of technology to cascade down to the lower levels of government departments.
Life will never be the same again with the coming of technology on the scene and Zimbabwe will hold its place up there with its head held up high as a proud peacock as it leaves its digital footprint in the global landscape.
